The problem

Gendered Journeys, a research study led by the University of Glasgow with IIM Calcutta and the University of Rwanda, follows STEM students and graduates through higher education and into employment in several global south countries. The international team needed someone on the ground who could work in local languages.

In the field

  • Semi-structured interviews and market surveys in four states
  • Transcription and translation between Bengali, Hindi and English
  • Data analysis in Python
  • Worked between the international researchers and local participants

What changed

  • Fieldwork across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh
